Chelsea long ago usurped SoHo as the epicenter of New York contemporary art galleries but the opening of the High Line above 10th Avenue created a new artery of life in this part of the city. More foot traffic means more gentrification and more restaurants. Chelsea has also replaced the West Village as the heart of the city's gay community.
