The waters around Shelter Island are perfect for kayaking. If you set out on a kayak, you have the option of exploring on your own or taking a guided tour. The Mashomack Nature Preserve, rich with birdlife and other animals, is a favorite kayaking destination.

Shelter Island Kayak Tours. The often calm waters of Coecles Harbor and its natural beauty makes for perfect kayaking. Kayak rentals, for the minimum rental period of two hours, are about $30 for single kayaks and $50 for doubles; two-hour guided kayak tours, at 10 am daily, are $60.
