The Dock

The Dock Review

Seafaring-related antiques festoon the rustic wood walls and ceiling of Montauk's favorite dockside restaurant. Great nachos, burgers, fish sandwiches, specials, and a cozy, local bar scene are hallmarks here.

I was overjoyed with the fact that I was not only going to Montauk but also to the historic bar lounge "The Dock." famous for its Bar B Q and Burgers. I arrived and was promptly seated and so far everything was great until I turned around and found the bathroom had no lock and could hear everything and also smell everything from our seat. I decided to close the bathroom door and saw no lock and when looking inside there I saw anti-Semitic jokes, racist comments and insensitive imagery of homeless people half naked framed for all to see. I could not believe this establishment actually found these things appropriate enough to think they were funny for the customers. I walked out and sat back down and ate my burger, which was great, but the waitress never brought my fresh lemonade even after I asked twice. I decided to drink the water and then looked up to find yet more offensive framed images of a "stereotypical Black face sambo image eating a watermelon, jokes on Muslim culture, more anti-Semitic images and sexist photos of women. I decided to stand up and walk out without thanking the waitress and simply paid for my half eaten burger. I cannot say the food was good or even bad; it was the atmosphere of intolerance and hate that dominated The Dock. I for one will never return to this place. It is an insult and it will be reported.

The seafood was very good. Some of the best steamed mussels that I've ever had. Nice local crowd and quirky deco.
