Riverhead

The town of Riverhead was established in 1792 at the junction of the North and South forks, with the Peconic River and Great Peconic Bay bordering the town on the south and Long Island Sound on the north. Riverhead, like most other places on the North Fork, began as a farming village. Although agriculture remains a key factor in its economy, the town's main industries today are shopping and tourism. The sprawling Tanger Outlet Stores annually draws thousands of bargain hunters and tour groups, and several major shopping centers have sprung up along Route 58.
