The 1872 Victorian inn sits in the center of activity in the Heights. The main building, which houses the restaurant and bar, has a tree-shaded patio and a sitting room. Guest rooms, furnished sparingly with country antiques and reproductions, are bright and comfortable. In summer two adjunct buildings, the Cedar House and Summer Cottage, also accommodate overnighters; front rooms and those near the doors may get some street and foot-traffic noise. As a guest here, you may use the facilities at the Ram's Head, a sister property. The inn's formal restaurant ($$-$$$$) feels like a country club; the menu ranges from curried chicken breast to mustard-coated rack of lamb. In warm weather, crowds swarm the tree-covered patio, where lighter fare is served. The pub hosts live music on some weekends.
