Access from the east and south is primarily via Interstate 90, the New York State Thruway. The expressway spur I-190 leads from I-90 at Buffalo across Grand Island to the Robert Moses Parkway into Niagara Falls. The parkway continues north to Lewiston and then Youngstown, where the Niagara River empties into Lake Ontario. On the far east side of the region is another natural wonder, Letchworth State Park, which puts you close to the Finger Lakes region to the east. The scenic New York State Seaway Trail traces the region's perimeter in the north and west, along lakes Ontario and Erie.
