Erie Canal Village

Erie Canal Village Review

Digging of the Erie Canal started in 1817 on this site, now home to a re-created 19th-century canal settlement. You can visit a tavern, a blacksmith shop, a one-room schoolhouse, and settlers' houses from different eras of the 1800s. The complex also includes a cheese museum (in a former cheese factory), a carriage museum with horse-drawn vehicles, and a canal museum with displays about the construction of, and life along, the canal. A mule-drawn packet boat gives rides on the canal, or you can take a ride on a steam train.
