Dobson House Review

Guests who book one of the two private suites at this ecotourist destination can help preserve the environment in style. This eclectic B&B relies primarily on passive heating and cooling and electricity is provided by solar panels. In addition, the 6,000-square-foot residence, within walking distance of the Rio Grande gorge, was built by hand by innkeepers Joan and John Dobson using 2,000 old tires, 20,000 recycled aluminum cans, and 28,000 pounds of dry cement and packed earth. Even so, guests live luxuriously with Ralph Lauren linens, and Joan's full breakfasts of Texas pecan biscuits, chicken-apple sausage, and Mexican baked eggs, plus extensive afternoon snacks and refreshments. The couples' sophisticated art collection adorns the home's authentic adobe walls.
