Hacienda del Sol

109 Mabel Dodge La., El Prado, New Mexico, 87571, United States

Art patron Mabel Dodge Luhan bought this house about a mile north of Taos Plaza in the 1920s and lived here with her husband, Tony Luhan, while building their main house. It was also their private retreat and guesthouse for visiting notables; Frank Waters wrote People of the Valley here—other guests have included Willa Cather and D. H. Lawrence. Most of the rooms contain kiva fireplaces, Southwestern handcrafted furniture, and original artwork, and all have CD players—a few have Jacuzzi tubs. Certain adjoining rooms can be combined into suites. Breakfast is a gourmet affair that might include huevos rancheros or Belgian waffles. Perhaps above all else, the "backyards" of the rooms and the secluded outdoor hot tub have a view of Taos Mountain.
