The hotels and motels along NM 68 (Paseo del Pueblo Sur and Norte) suit every need and budget; with a few exceptions, rates vary little between big-name chains and smaller establishments. Make advance reservations and expect higher rates during the ski season (usually from late December to early April) and in the summer. Skiers have many choices for overnighting, from accommodations in the town of Taos to spots snuggled up right beside the slopes, although several of the hotels up at Taos Ski Valley have been converted to condos in recent years, eroding the supply of overnight accommodations. Arroyo Seco is a good alternative if you can't find a room right up in the Ski Valley.
The best deals in town are the bed-and-breakfasts. Mostly family-owned, they provide personal service, delicious breakfasts, and many extras that hotels charge for. The B&Bs are often in old adobes that have been refurbished with style and flair. Many have "casitas," private cabins or lodges separate from the main building.
