Fodor's Review:

The kind of place where Lucy and Ricky might have stayed during one of their cross-country adventures, the El Rey was built in 1930s but has been brought gracefully into the 21st century, its rooms handsomely made over. Rooms are individually decorated and might include antique television armoires, beamed ceilings, upholstered wing chairs and sofas; some have kitchenettes. Bathrooms have been handsomely updated with glass brick and tile. Each unit has a small covered front patio with wrought-iron chairs. Towering shade trees loom over the parking lot, and there's a landscaped courtyard with tables and chairs by the pool.

I lounged in El Rey's gardens instead of shopping Santa Fe Plaza!

While it was the smallest of our CO and NM vacation motel rooms, our $89 room at the El Rey Inn, July 2006, 1 DBL & 1 Twin, was the nicest, just great! Nice gardens w/ fountains, solid masonry walls in rooms keep out noise, big pool w/9 foot deep end, 2 hot tubs, laundry, terrific patio breakfast, beautifully decorated rooms and grounds. Free Internet in Reception area. Totally opposite your typical asphalt surrounded motel room. Highly recommended by my partner & our 7 yr old daughter.

-unfortunately (even though i confirmed several times) our room was not ready and instead of upgrading us, they down graded us to a much smaller room. the room we ended up in was nice but a little dark and noisy since it faced the street. also, they charged me 1$ to print one piece of paper from the printer even after not having the room ready, and having the air and toilet break. the repaired the toilet asap. the air conditioning was just inefficient and there wasn't much they could do.
