Mariscos la Playa Review

Yes, even in landlocked Santa Fe it's possible to find incredibly fresh and well-prepared seafood served in big portions. This cheery, colorful Mexican restaurant surrounded by strip malls is just a short hop south of Downtown. Favorite dishes include the absolutely delicious shrimp wrapped in bacon with Mexican cheese and caldo vuelve a la vida ("come back to life"), a hearty soup of shrimp, octopus, scallops, clams, crab, and calamari. There's also ceviche tostadas, fresh oysters on the half shell, and pescado a la plancha, super-tender trout cooked with butter and paprika. The staff and service are delightful.

    Fish in the mountains??

This place has been around for a number of years and now there are two in Santa Fe. Both have playful fish oriented decor and playful food as well. For some reason fish tacos, the soups and the planked grilled trout all are better here than any other place comparable and the service is pleasant. Lots of locals, families and kids but it somehow fits with the general feel of the place - generous, tasty and welcoming.

    Best seafood in Santa Fe

The location and the ambience don't make this an obvious choice, but it's been a favorite of ours for twenty years. The seafood is no frills Veracruz style and couldn't be fresher. The seafood tacos are as good as any I ever tasted growing up in Mexico.
