Design Center Review

The Design Center, which occupies a former Chevy dealership in the Guadalupe District, contains some of the most distinctive antique and decorative-arts shops in town, plus a couple of small restaurants. Be sure to browse the precious Latin American antiques at Claiborne Gallery (505/982-8019), along with the artful contemporary desks, tables, and chairs created by owner Omer Claiborne. Gloria List Gallery (505/982-5622) specializes in rare 17th- and 18th-century devotional and folk art, chiefly from South America, Italy, Spain, and Mexico. And at Sparrow & Magpie Antiques (505/982-1446), look mostly for East Coast and Midwest folk art and textiles, although the shop carries some Southwestern pieces, too.
