This secluded 225-acre compound hugs Black Mesa's base. Many of the inn's rooms are self-contained suites, some set around a courtyard and others amid the wilderness. All rooms have Southwestern furnishings, Frette robes, Aveda bath products, and CD stereos; nearly all have kiva fireplaces. The top units have such cushy touches as two bedrooms, 12-foot ceilings, Mexican marble showers, kitchens, Jacuzzis, and private patios. The à la carte menu in the Three Forks restaurant (dinner Tuesday through Saturday, by reservation only) features inventive contemporary cuisine, changes weekly. Past fare has included Texas quail stuffed with corn bread, green chiles, and linguica sausage, and Alaskan halibut with tomatillo-lime salsa, caramelized butternut squash, and creamed spinach. Hike to a beautiful hand-carved sandstone shrine on a bluff above the property. In-suite spa and massage services are available.
