A Good Walk: Old Santa Fe Trail

The Loretto Chapel, facing the Old Santa Fe Trail, one block south of La Fonda hotel, is a good place to start your walk. After visiting the chapel, head southeast on Old Santa Fe Trail to the San Miguel Mission. Across from the mission, on De Vargas Street, is the Oldest House. Up and down narrow De Vargas stretches the Barrio de Analco. Across Old Santa Fe Trail on the west side of De Vargas, check out the historic Santa Fe Playhouse. In the early art colony days literary luminaries like Mary Austin and Witter Bynner would stage shows here. Walk farther away from Downtown until you come to the New Mexico State Capitol, with grounds showcasing some fantastic sculpture and interesting rotating art exhibits in the Governor's Gallery inside.

Timing

Plan on spending half an hour total visiting the two churches and another hour checking out the New Mexico State Capitol and exploring the Barrio de Analco. The entire walk can be done in about two hours.
