Fodor's Review

This breathtaking 588,000-acre property, the heart of the famous 2-million-acre Maxwell Land Grant, includes a private hunting and fishing resort. Here you can stay in rustic yet luxurious accommodations; hunt for bison, elk, turkey, and mule deer; skeet shoot; horseback ride; and fish among the property's 21 lakes and countless rivers. The impressive main lodge houses a dining room, bar, gift shop, and guest services desk; a second lodge houses guests in six rooms and has its own private chef, dining room, and bar (room rates here include all meals, as well as activities like horseback riding and fishing). There's no TV on the premises, nor are there hot tubs, swimming pools, or a golf course—this place is all about returning to the land. Media mogul Ted Turner owns the ranch, and his attention to land and animal stewardship is both remarkable and evident.
