A short drive northeast of Nob Hill and UNM, Los Cuates doesn't get as much attention as some of the city's more touristy New Mexican restaurants, but the food here is purely delicious, prepared with pure vegetable oil rather than lard, which is one reason it's never as greasy as at some competitors. Also, the green chile stew is vegetarian (unless you request meat). All the usual favorites are served here, but top picks include the roast-beef burrito covered with melted cheese, and the tostada compuesta (a corn tortilla stuffed with beef, beans, rice, potatoes, carne adovada, and chile con queso).

Yikes! The salsa served with the chips was some of the worst I've ever had. The margaritas weren't bad - at least they weren't from a mix. The food was very bland. I had the carne adovada and it was not tasty at all. My companion had the beef tacos and was underwhelmed as well.
Stick with margaritas and queso and you should be fine.
