Fodor's Review

A short drive northeast of Nob Hill and UNM, Los Cuates (a three-location local minichain) doesn't get as much attention as some of the city's more touristy New Mexican restaurants, but the food here is reliable, and prepared with pure vegetable oil rather than lard, which is one reason it's never as greasy as at some competitors. The green-chile stew is vegetarian (unless you request meat). All the usual favorites are served here, but top picks include the roast-beef burrito covered with melted cheese, and the tostada compuesta (a corn tortilla stuffed with beef, beans, rice, potatoes, carne adovada, and chile con queso—chile cheese sauce).
