In the Northeast Heights you are approaching the foothills of the Sandia Mountains, in upscale neighborhoods that surprise with the sudden appearance of piñon and ponderosa. Trips to this area can easily be combined with more north-central venues like the Balloon Museum and local microbreweries, or the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, which, once you’ve made it into the foothills, is due south.
