Fodor's Review

Pull out your good shoes and jacket: you're dining in an 1840s Victorian plantation home that's romantic enough for the O'Hara's of Tara. The Washington Inn has five dining areas, one of which is a wine cellar where 10,000 bottles await the uncorking. Flights of wine are available for those who prefer to take their cues from the sommelier. As for your meal, you can't go wrong starting with rock shrimp and lobster bisque, followed by bacon-wrapped twin pork tenderloins,

and a dessert of fresh berries and chocolate mousse.

We loved the Washington Inn so much, we were married there...

This restaurant is, in my opinion, the best in Cape May. Actually, it is - by far - the best restaurant I've ever had the pleasure of dining in. Mimi Woods has been the chef here for many years and is absolutely the best. Her creativity and presentation is bar none. (Kathy, the pasty chef, is a celebrity in her own right, too.) For an appetizer, the crab cakes can not be beat. My favorite entree is the "Late Night Filet" - but the Tournedos

of Pork Diane is amazing as well. The wine selection is amazing (stop downstairs to see the wine cellar if you're there) - and, no matter what dessert you order, you can't go wrong. Get there early to have a cocktail in the bar area with Marty, their bartender. The atmosphere in this restaurant is romantic, so comfortable, yet elegant all wrapped in to one. One dining room is more beautiful than the next. The menu and the quality of the food could stand alone - yet is far enhanced by the staff at this restaurant. From the bartender to the wine steward to the wait staff - the service is excellent. Most of these people have worked at the Inn for years, and they are extremely friendly, gracious, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this restaurant and I hope this review is helpful.

CRAB CAKES TO DIE FOR

Had a very romantic dinner there. The food was incredible and make sure you save room for dessert. The ladies room was so beautifully decorated, its worth the trip up the stairs and the wait. There crab cakes are the best around and the atmosphere second to none.
