Peter Shields Inn Review

White columns rise skyward to the large portico at the entrance of this 1907 Georgian Revival mansion on Cape May's peaceful northern shore. Inside, the wide double staircase in the lobby continues the grandeur. Victorian-era rooms are decorated with massive carved headboards, stuffed chairs, and working fireplaces. Some baths have claw-foot tubs. The restaurant encompasses several different rooms: choose to dine by a large fireplace or on the west sunporch.

    Pricey with not much substance

    Have been going to the Peter Shields Inn one a year for a quick weekend getaway the past few years. Just returned from a disappointing experience where the significant rate increase didn't reflect an increase in service or value for our stay. Basically, we noticed the bathrooms were updated...aside from this, everything else was the same. Breakfast is now self serve and very simple with one choice of entree. Cocktail hour is very skimpy with cheap wine and a cheddar and meunster cheese hors d'oeuvres platter with Ritz crackers. Although the beach side setting is very romantic, at $325 (plus tax) per night price tag doesn't reflect the value.
