The Chelsea Review

This boutique hotel has a convincingly swank vibe that could double as a set location for the TV hit Mad Men. The lobby's electric-purple couches and white-resin mushroom sculptures establish the pampered-hipster vibe. These slick details continue both in the rooms, where the wing chairs are upholstered in leopard print, and at the fifth-floor 15,000-square-foot poolside Terrace Lounge, where only hotel guests are allowed to hang out on a sea of black-and-white convertible cushions. The entire fifth floor, with its indoor/outdoor lounges and billiards room, is lively day and night. An army of Chelsea workers in crisp white shorts and shirts generally trip over themselves to attend to guests' every need.

    Checking in was on the "good" or new side which is super hip and funky. We were very excited until we walked down the hall into the bad side to get to our room. The room was over $300 and was a complete dump, esp for that kind of money. The valet told us that we could only park one car and we were meeting people from elsewhere so he made " an exception" although they told us they would take care of the two cars at checkout. The elevator took forever so we walked and carried our stuff. Our room didn't even have soap! When I called the front desk they agreed we were in the bad side but the good side( which was the same price!) was full, she told me to call back at midnight to see if we could move rooms to the nice side. The decor of the room was 1970s but not in a "cool" or "retro" way. We did have a slider that overlooked a pawn shop and an *hourly* hotel.
    the famous pool was a club atmosphere, not somewhere to relax, a bumpin DJ and no seats at the pool or the bar. the framer of the whole experience is the photo I took. The disgustingly dirty bed we discovered when we pulled back the comforter! If you were in the bad side noone seemed the least bit interested...for $300+ this is horrible!
