Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, Brigantine Division

Fodor's Review:

Nearly 40,000 acres of coastal habitats—including 3,000 acres of woodland—are protected in this refuge. Peregrine falcons and bald eagles are among the winged visitors. You can take an 8-mi wildlife drive, or walk the Leeds Eco-Trail, a ½-mi loop through salt marsh and woodlands, or the Akers Woodland Trail, an easy ¼ quarter mi. To get here from Atlantic City, head west on U.S. 30, then right on U.S. 9. After about 5 mi, make a right onto Great Creek Road.

  • Cost: $4 per vehicle
  • Open: Daily dawn-dusk
