Just north of downtown Rochester, this pair of neighboring, early-20th-century Georgian-style mansions are the former homes of state governors (and brothers) Huntley and Roland Spaulding. Guests now make their way about the homes' stately marble fireplaces, elliptical staircases, garden patios, and lavishly furnished bedrooms. The restaurant ($$-$$$; closed Monday) presents an often-changing menu of regional American dishes such as baked seafood pie with lobster cream sauce, and filet mignon with a crab cake and shiitake demi-glace. Lighter fare is served in the Café in the Carriage House, which has a delightful garden.
