This 1833 Victorian inn is a great base both for exploring the lakes and skiing in the White Mountains. Common rooms range from a beamed-ceiling pub to a dining room where tables are laid with white linen and crystal. Guest rooms have brass or antique beds, down comforters, CD players, and Caswell-Massey toiletries. The dining room ($$-$$$; closed Sunday and Monday in summer and Sunday-Wednesday in winter) serves seasonal cuisine with specialties such as grilled top sirloin with mushroom-leek ragout and whipped Red Bliss potatoes. It also serves an extensive full breakfast and afternoon tea.
