This stately 1843 Greek-revival hotel isn't luxurious, but it did undergo a complete room-by-room renovation throughout 2004, vastly improving the quality of furniture, linens, and decoration -- the hotel also has high-speed wireless Internet. The well-kept rooms retain a quaintly old-fashioned look, with creaky floorboards, exposed pipes, vintage steam radiators, high ceilings, and comfy wing chairs. Passersby are welcome to have a look at a small third-floor room set up as it would have appeared in the 1840s or to visit the sixth-floor cupola, with its 360-degree views. There's no elevator -- good to know if you planned to book an upper-floor room. Several restaurants and shops are within walking distance. It's one of the best values in New England.

We have stayed at Thayer's several times in a variety of rooms. We usually make a last minute decision and have found that room or two available to choose from.
On our first visit we stayed in a marvelous two-bedroom suite.
The past couple of visits we were able to get small rooms in the back on the upper floor. The rooms vary in size but are always a great value for the money.
The hotel is right on Main St. in the middle of Littleton. This is a great location for wandering strolling around, and for enjoying their nice balcony.
