$$-$$$$, Littleton
Fodor's Review:
Pencil-post beds, marble nightstands, and fluffy upholstered chairs set a low-key, refined tone at this white 1833 Federal-style house. You can rent the two-bedroom suite -- -with a claw-foot tub, TV/VCR, kitchenette, and fireplace -- by the night or the week. The cozy restaurant ($$-$$$$; closed Monday and Tuesday, no lunch) has an eclectic menu. From the wood-grilled duck breast appetizer, you might move on to snapper sautéed with mango, bananas, grapes, and dark rum; or Black Angus tenderloin au poivre (in a Gorgonzola, chipotle-butter, and mushroom brandy sauce). Chef-owners José Luis and Catherine Pawelek prepare everything from scratch, including a lavish three-course breakfast. You can also relax in the Martini Bar, which has an astonishing 250-plus different kinds of martini.
