Despite its wintery name, this 1778 inn is an all-season retreat. Rooms in the main building and the saltbox next door have Laura Ashley and Ralph Lauren prints. Other rooms are set in a delightful old barn, in a sugarhouse, and in a few cottages set about the wooded grounds. Suites have beamed ceilings and fireplaces. Standbys in the restaurant ($$-$$$$) are pan-seared sea scallops on shrimp risotto with coconut-mango cream sauce and crispy eggplant napoleon layered with portobello mushrooms, basil pesto, roasted red peppers, ricotta, and fresh mozzarella. The inn's gardens are spectacular.

We stayed in the cabin which was pretty and secluded but with some terrible beds and an oven/stove that didn't work consistently (for Christmas)and a sink that ran all the time. When we complained, management offered us $50 off even though we were paying premium rates. We finally got a discount but will not return.
