A former grande-dame hotel and still a working inn, Thayers also functions as an informal museum. Many of the rooms have been recently renovated with new paint, linens, and furniture, but enough antiques remain to lend it yesteryear charm. In the lobby and lining the hall are photos and memorabilia from movie star Bette Davis's huge birthday bash and artifacts of other illustrious guests, including Ulysses S. Grant, Henry Ford, P. T. Barnum, and Richard Nixon. Request a key to climb up to the cupola for 360-degree view of the town. Two rooms are open to the public: one set up as a guest room from the 1840s, and the other a scene from Pollyanna, written by Littleton native Eleanor Hodgman Porter (born 1868).
