Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa Review

STOLEN! Returned from 2night stay. Our IPAD and $30 stolen from our room while out to supper. Beds were turned down while we were out and clearly theft occured at that time. Hotel manager and staff indignant over our loss. In fact upset with us over reporting the theft, as if this could not happen. Their continue denials only seem to enable further thefts by the involved staff. If you must stay at this hotel leave nothing of value in the room, otherwise

Best kept secret

My family and I stumbled on the Mountain View while planning a last minute NH get away over our children's Spring Break. Admittedly picky and hesitant of New England resorts and inns (which typically use "quaint" as an excuse for dusty and in need of TLC), we were more than pleasantly surprised. The building, grounds and view are stunning and the interiors, fresh and immaculate. The place is steeped in history and has the air of a grand old world

hotel, but without the attitude. The staff from start to finish were courteous, prompt and friendly and within minutes of arrival we were escorted to our room to view it. With 3 kids in tow we were moved (upgraded) to a larger room that was amazing. The bathroom was gleaming white and looked like it could have been retiled yesterday. We were amazed by the resources (even in mud season) that included a "theater" that played a list of hotel supplied DVD's complete with popcorn and recliners, heated indoor pool, adjoining farm with animals, two game rooms, the list goes on. In most cases we had the run of these ammenities to ourselves. Meals were all excellent and fairly priced in an atmosphere that was 5 star. My kids had the time of their lives and kept on telling us this was "the best hotel ever" and that they can't wait to go back which means my wife and I can't either. We left the resort spending around $500 for two nights and meals, a veritable bargain for a place of this league. I realize this has a lot to do with visiting in the off season but at twice that it would have been worth it. In short ignore any rating on here below a 5. I would give it a 6 on every count if I could. I wish this resort the best of success and look forward to a return visit.

A Gem of a Mountain Resort

We chose the Mountain View Grand in search of snow and relaxation over spring break, and found just what we were looking for. This grand old hotel, seated in the midst of the White Mountains, has been meticulously and lovingly restored. The public places, including the lobby, the parlor, the library with fireplace, dining areas and game rooms were attractive, clean and comfortable. The view from our aptly named Vista Studio room on the 3rd floor was

spectacular, although the noise from the wind-whipped flagpole just overhead was annoying at times. The furnishings and carpet were elegant and in good condition, and the bed was very confortable. Sure – the elevator is old, slow and erratic, but that is the charm of a historic property. The service was friendly, personable and helpful; our encounters with over a dozen staff members were outstanding without exception. I was puzzled by the prior negative review about poor service, as this was quite different from our experience; perhaps the staff has recently undergone customer service training. The food, although pricey, was quite good, and with no long waits for service in the dining rooms. Snow-related activities, such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, were readily available, as were ping pong, air hockey and a pool table in the basement game rooms. We didn’t take advantage of the spa facilities or the complimentary nightly movies in the basement theatre. Connecting to the complimentary wireless internet service was a breeze. We’ll be back to the Mountain View Grand, and will readily recommend it to others.

Mountain View Sham: Grand View, Grating Experience

Initially they should be ordered to change their name. "Grand"? Nonsense! This was simply the worst hotel, let alone "resort" I have ever seen or heard of. Heres a brief list of what we encountered. Dinner service approximately 2 ½ hours  The Golf Course, disgraceful! Sand traps missing sand and filled with weeds, greens with dandelions growing in them . . . oh yeah, the golf was NOT included in the $350.00 per night charge either . . . our convention

was in fact charged $5.00 more for our carts and $14.00 more for the 9 holes than non convention guests. The staff . . . WHAT STAFF? The Resort was horribly understaffed, and the staff that they did have were for the most part VERY rude, especially the management to whom complaints were made by several attendees. They were completely untrained and very uncouth. The bell boys stood outside the front door and spoke aloud about how they were not likely to make any money as our group were pretty bad tippers, but went on to share suggestions of how pretending to care about how their stay was can result in a better tip. Some of the ladies went horse back riding, only problem here was, there were no working bathrooms in the stables and at least two were told to squat in a stall next to the horse if they had to go, very sorry ladies. We have a rich tradition of Grand Resorts in New Hampshire, The Balsams, and The Mount Washington Resort at Bretton Woods, the Mountain View SHOULD NOT be considered in that class. If you are looking for a different venue and the same amenities and services, PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!!!
