Ski Areas in North Conway
Cranmore Mountain Adventure Park. This downhill ski area has been a favorite with families since it opened in 1938. The 57 trails are fun to ski, and five glades have increased the skiable terrain. Most runs are naturally formed intermediates that weave in and out of glades. Beginners have several slopes and routes from the summit; experts must be content with a few short, steep pitches. In addition to the trails, there's snow tubing, a mountain coaster, a giant swing, and a zipline. Snowboarders have five terrain parks. Twilight skiing is offered Saturday and holidays. 1 Skimobile Rd., North Conway, NH, 03860. 603/356–5543; 603/356–5544 snow conditions. www.cranmore.com.
King Pine Ski Area at Purity Spring Resort. About 9 miles south of Conway, this family-run ski area has been going strong since 1962. King Pine's 17 gentle trails are ideal for beginner and intermediate skiers; experts won't be challenged except for a brief section of the Pitch Pine trail. There are 9 miles of cross-country ski trails. Indoors, you can enjoy a pool and fitness complex and go ice-skating. In summer the resort has every outdoor activity imaginable, including archery, waterskiing, kayaking, loon-watching, tennis, hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. 1251 Eaton Rd., East Madison, NH, 03849. 603/367–8896 or 800/373–3754. www.kingpine.com.
