Sports and the Outdoors
Loon Mountain. Wide, straight, and consistent intermediate trails prevail at Loon, a modern resort on the western edge of the Kancamagus Highway (Route 112) and the Pemigewasset River. Beginner trails and slopes are set apart. The most advanced among the 61 runs are grouped on the North Peak section, with 2,100 feet of vertical skiing, farther from the main mountain. Snowboarders have a half-pipe and their own park; an alpine garden with bumps and jumps provides thrills for skiers. In the base lodge and around the mountain are the usual food-service and lounge facilities. Day and night lift-served snow tubing is on the lower slopes; there's also a winter zipline. The touring center at Loon Mountain has 20 km of cross-country trails, and there's ice-skating on an outdoor rink. Kancamagus Hwy.
