Bretton Woods

Bretton Woods

In the early 1900s private railcars brought the elite from New York and Philadelphia to the Mount Washington Hotel, the jewel of the White Mountains. A visit to the hotel is not to be missed. The hotel was the site, in 1944, of a famous United Nations conference that created the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and whose decisions governed international monetary and financial policy until the early 1970s. The area is also known for its cog railway and Bretton Woods ski resort.
