A convivial downtown gathering spot on the Exeter River, this downstairs tavern pulls in parents of prep-school kids, college students, and suburbanites. It may be informal, but the kitchen turns out surprisingly sophisticated meals. Start with sautéed ragout of mushrooms stewed in a Marsala cream sauce with sun-dried tomatoes, roasted shallots, garlic, and Asiago cheese, then move on to a lobster risotto with wild mushrooms and asparagus. In the bar, lighter fare is on offer.
