Amoskeag Mills Review

There are miles of hallways in the brick buildings that comprise this former textile mill. To get a sense of what they are and what they meant to Manchester, visit the two key museums housed here: the SEE Science Center and the Millyard Museum.

SEE Science Center. The SEE Science Center is a hands-on science lab and children's museum with more than 70 exhibits. If you're in Manchester, child or adult, don't miss it. The world's largest permanent LEGO installation of regular-sized LEGOs is here, depicting the city's Amoskeag Millyard and the city of Manchester as it was in 1915. This mind-blowing exhibit is made up of 3 million LEGOs across 2,000 square feet. More important, the exhibit also conveys the massive size and importance of the mills, which ran a mile on each side of the Merrimack. 200 Bedford St., 03101. 603/669-0400. www.see-sciencecenter.org. $8. Weekdays 10-4, weekends 10-5.

Millyard Museum. Upstairs in theAmoskeag Mills building, state-of-the-art exhibits depict the region's history from when Native Americans lived alongside and fished the Merrimack River to the heyday of Amoskeag Mills. The interactive Discovery Gallery is geared toward kids; there's also a lecture/concert hall and a large museum shop. 200 Bedford St., 03101. 603/622-7531. www.manchesterhistoric.org. $8. Tues.-Sat. 10-4.
