This inn with a great lakefront location opened in 1812 and has been a perennial favorite. In the second part of 2008 it is poised to take a radical step forward, to become, in fact, the freshest and most stylish hotel in the lake region. Call to find out if the rooms have been renovated yet; if so, and you like a contemporary luxurious boutique look, stay here—there will be nothing like it in the state outside of the stylish hotels the same owners have created from classic old properties in Exeter and Concord. Pros: lakefront setting, interesting pub, slated for massive renovation. Cons: pre-renovation property is tired.
