Sunapee Harbor Cottages Review

This charming collection of six private cottages is within a stone's throw of Sunapee Harbor. Each unit sleeps five to eight people, making them a good deal for groups and an extravagant pleasure for couples. All have gas fireplaces, private porches, and a well-chosen mix of antiques and newer furnishings. Special winter rates are available for skiers visiting nearby Mt. Sunapee.

    Don't Bother

If the owner wasn't there, these cottages would be great. Expect to be lectured on the "rules" from the minute you get there. You will be nickled and dimed for everything. Good luck if you're bringing children, the warden, I mean, you're host will have plenty of rules for them too.

    Poor Hospitality

Ditto - the previous review. Just add the mouse droppings in the kitchen drawers and cabinets and the accusation by the owner that they have never had mice before and that maybe we brought the mice in one of our bags. That sums up our stay.

Steer Clear of Sunapee Harbor Cottages

My experience at these cottages was similar to the reviews below. From the exterior the place looks pretty nice, but once you enter the surreal world of the proprietor your stay will be ruined. You will be greeted by an extensive set of rules that will be randomly applied or enforced by a screeching voice. Children playing joyfully outside seem to upset the proprietor in particular. You will be stalked and harassed and if you attempt to engage in discourse the proprietor has a history of calling the police (see posts at travelpost.com for details). Your security deposit will be at risk as the proprietor will attempt to find any excuse to withhold your money. If you are able to escape the grounds, you will find that the advertising for the cottages is false in that these are not waterfront cottages. You can barely see the water from the cottages. To get to the water you must cross a street and a public park. And once at the water you will discover you can't swim in the harbor. Avoid at all costs.

A hidden gem yards fro Sunapee Harbor

Ignore all of the previous complaints about the owner. These cottages and now owned and managed by a charming couple who have moved from nearby Vermont and who are determined to make big changes. We stayed in Cottage 2 for one night at the end of August and could not have had a better time anywhere. A friendly welcome introduced us to an immaculately clean and beautifully decorated cottage. Well-equipped kitchenette, gas grill on the porch, beautiful quilt on the queen bed, free wi-fi. The cottages are a two minute walk to charming Sunapee Harbor. Sunapee Lake is an undiscovered gem, with loads to do in the surrounding area. Don't miss The Fells, the family home and gardens of the Hay Family, now open to the public. The cottages would be perfect for a couple or a family.
