Fodor's Expert Review Pioneer Hotel and Gambling Hall
2200 S. Casino Dr., Laughlin, Nevada, 89028, USA
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
Although other casinos stress the new, the Pioneer retains its laid-back Western theme and decor from the craps table right inside the front door to the kitschy Western trimmings of Sassy Sue's saloon, an enclosed bar with picture-window river views. You can spot this small casino from the River Walk by looking for the neon mascot, River Rick—he's Vegas Vic's brother. (This was once a sister property to the long-gone Pioneer on Fremont Street.) The riverside exterior is also unusual for its charming landscaping, including lawns, fountain, and a walkway that begs to be strolled, while the new restaurant, Bumbleberry Flats, offers creative twists on American comfort food.
