Fodor's Expert Review Volcano at Mirage
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This erupting volcano, a 54-foot mountain-fountain surrounded by a lake of miniature fire spouts, is a must-see free attraction on the Strip. Five times a night beginning at 7 pm, the whole area erupts in flames, smoke, and eerily backlit water that looks like lava. The thundering island percussion soundtrack was created by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and Indian tabla sensation Zakir Hussain. The best vantage point is near the main drive entrance, or on the east side of Las Vegas Boulevard in front of Casino Royale.
