Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino
Fodor's Finds Hotels
Book NowGolden Nugget Hotel & Casino Review
New owners took over the Golden Nugget in 2003 and again in 2005; since that time, the place has continued to rank as Downtown's leading property. Among its neighbors in what is known as "Old Vegas," the hotel stands apart with attractions such as The Tank, a pool with a shark tank and a three-story waterslide (which, incidentally, goes through the shark tank). The property also has some of the newest rooms; the modern and sophisticated Rush Tower opened in late 2009. Casino policies are inconsistent, but a popular poker room is likely to last. Pros : legendary Vegas property; one-of-a-kind pool. Cons : small sports book, despite its charm, Downtown Vegas can be sketchy.

The Nugget is a great home base for exploring the old-school downtown scene. Stepping out the front door onto Fremont Street is fun, and it's easy to "casino hop" without the long treks required on the Strip.
The hotel offers some great specials and a coupon book when you check in that includes a couple of breakfasts. Joining the players club gets you $5 free slot play. -

LOVED IT!
We try to stay at as many different hotels as possible, looking for our favorites, this is now one of them! Big, clean, spacious rooms. Great service in all the food and beverage outlets. Lots of open tables and gaming machines and beautiful pool! Wish the pool was open later (closes at 8pm) because it is still HOT at midnight (and the hot tub is open until 2am). Will return, it was great! -

We were very disappointed in our stay at The Golden Nugget in July 2007. We stayed in the south tower and our room had a horrible smell that was obviously trying to be covered with some foul room deoderizer. There was black mold growing in the shower, the toilet hardly flushed, and the shower did not drain well so we ended up standing in dirty water. And... if that wasn't enough, we could hear the elevator running all night long. The new pool wasn't even very impressive because the pool portion is much too small for the number of people in the water. Do yourself a huge favor... spend a few extra dollars and stay at a nicer hotel on the strip.

Our upgraded room in the North Tower was on the Fremont Street side and you could hear some of the sounds from the Fremont experience which is not what you want when trying to sleep. There were no other rooms available. What made matters worse was the springs in the mattress. My wife had to sleep on a pillow in order not to feel the springs. The special Sunday night seafood buffet was like eating in a cafeteria. Quality was mediocre. Overall not what we had hoped for. Will not go back again.
