Mandalay Bay Review
This resort is actually three hotels in one—the namesake Mandalay Bay, THEhotel (which was expected to rebrand as the Delano in early 2014), and the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas. Each brand is distinct, and each has a separate entrance. Mandalay itself is decked out like a South Seas beach resort, complete with the scent of coconut oil drifting through the casino and pagodas rising out of the vast casino floor. It's the most affordable and least fabulous lodging component of the overall resort, but it's still a first-rate property with cavernous rooms. Bathrooms have stone floors and counters, as well as deep soaking tubs with separate showers. Guests also receive full access to the Beach, the Beachside Casino, and the Moorea Beach Club, which offers topless sunbathing. Perhaps the only downside to staying at Mandalay Bay is the spacious layout of the property itself; without a map, it could take you five or six tries to get your bearings when you come and go.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Sharks: The Shark Reef aquarium features a 1.6-million-gallon saltwater tank with more than 2,000 different animals.
The Concerts : Between an outdoor pavilion and the House of Blues inside the casino, there's never a shortage of good live music at this joint.
The Views : Two ultra-lounges offer rooms with great views. Atop Mandalay Bay, The Foundation Room brings in deejays every night of the week. Atop THEHotel, this bar serves up fancy cocktails and some of the most incredible views in town.
The Eats: Celebrity chefs such as Charlie Palmer, Hubert Keller, Rick Moonen and Mary Sue Milliken have restaurants at this resort; offering foodies plenty of options for just about every night of a stay.
Amenities
Located on 11 acres, the Mandalay Beach offers guests a wave pool, lazy river, three swimming pools, and 2,700 tons of real sand that's trucked in regularly. The Beach has premium seating and the exclusive new Beachside Casino. If that weren't enough, the Moorea Beach Club also offers raft and tube rentals, as well as cabanas, daybeds, and bungalows and villas that include personalized service.
Two on-site spas-Spa Mandalay (at Mandalay Bay) and Bathhouse (at THEHotel)-offer a variety of relaxation chambers and dozens of signature treatments. Men love the gentlemen's facial at Spa Mandalay; women
swear by the creme brulee treatment at Bathhouse.
Mandalay Place, a shopping corridor that connects Mandalay Bay to the Luxor next door, offers a number of shops, including Nike Golf, Urban Outfitters, and more.
