Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino
The hotel formerly known as Aladdin underwent a makeover in 2007, and was reborn as Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Nearly $300 million later, the resulting property offers some of the trendiest and most exclusive clubs and restaurants in Vegas, and is considered by many to be the "it" property of today.
Management has worked hard to land movie premieres, which means regular celebrity sightings and frequent coverage in the press—the crowd at Privé is always beautiful. What's more, correspondents from the television news show EXTRA regularly report from the appropriately named EXTRA Lounge on the casino floor. Upstairs, the aptly named "PHabulous" suites provide nearly 2,000 square feet of lounging space. Overall, Planet Hollywood looks like a surefire winner for the years ahead.
The History
Back in 1963, a hotel first opened on the site as the Tally-Ho, then was renamed the Aladdin in 1966. It thrived as such until 1997, when it was torn down to make way for a new casino. The Aladdin reopened in completely new digs in 2000, but ran into financial troubles from the start. Finally, in 2003, a partnership of Planet Hollywood and Starwood Hotels & Resorts stepped in and took over, beginning a lengthy renovation project that finished in 2009. In addition to the rebuild, the property also erected Planet Hollywood Towers by Westgate, an attached 50-story condo hotel. The wing opened to owners in December 2009 and regular guests in January 2010.
