Las Vegas Places

Caesars Palace

The opulent entrance, fountains, Roman statuary, bas-reliefs, and roaming centurions all add up to the iconic, over-the-top Las Vegas hotel. Here you can get your picture taken with Caesar, Cleopatra, and the centurion guard; find the full-size reproduction of Michelangelo's David; or amble along Roman streetscapes in the Forum Shops to see the robotic Fall of Atlantis show. Caesars has some of the best shopping of any Vegas casino resort, with more than 160 stores at the Forum and Appian Way shops.

The History

To put it simply, Caesars Palace has seen it all. Construction on the property began in 1962, when a cabana motel owner used $10 million that had been lent to him by the Teamsters Central States Pension Fund to begin plans for a hotel on land owned by Kirk Kerkorian. That original hotel, which opened in 1966, was 14 stories and had 680 rooms. Caesars has been growing ever since, and now consists of five towers and more than 3,000 rooms. The property is as much a cultural icon as it is a hotel. On December 31, 1967, Evel Knievel unsuccessfully tried to jump the hotel's water fountain with his motorcycle. Several boxing matches also have been held in Caesars' Outdoor Arena: Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Gerry Cooney all have fought here.
