Silver State Classic Challenge. The country's largest (and most venerable) open-road race for amateur fast-car enthusiasts shows off street-legal muscle cars that zoom up to 200 mph. The event occurs south of Ely on Route 318, from Lund to Hiko. 702/631-6166. www.silverstateclassic.com.
AUGUST
White Pine County Fair. Livestock, flower, and vegetable competitions, plus a hay contest, carnival rides, food booths, dancing, and a buckaroo breakfast make this fair, held at the White Pine County Fairgrounds in Ely, the real thing. 775/289-4691. www.wpcfair.com.
