Holland Lake Lodge

At a Glance

    Pros

  • Incredible place nestled at the foot of the mountains. You can't ask for a better place to relax, particularly during the shoulder seasons

    Cons

  • The 4 mi of unpaved road can be a bit rough and very congested during the summer. This is a heavily used area in July and August for packers and hikers heading into the backcountry

Holland Lake Lodge Review

When the snow flies, this lodge is nearly buried, which makes for cozy fireside dining and relaxing. The log lodge sits on the lakeshore, where you can cross-country ski or snowshoe from the door. In summer step off the cabin porch for a hike or a swim. Cabins are updated yet rustic. You can dine on trout in the restaurant ($$-$$$) while watching the trout rise.

  • 9 rooms, 6 cabins.
  • Restaurant, bar.
  • Rooms have: no TV.

There are few places still accessible in the United States where you can literally unplug from your life and relax. Holland Lake Lodge is that place. You will have a bed that rocks you to sleep, food that rivals the best New York restaurants and a view from your cabin porch that will take your breath away. No cell phones or TV's, wireless internet connections abound and if you must - Skype for a phone call - but you have to make a conscious choice to connect in order to be reached. Having traveled to over 30 countries and several "destination vacations" - Holland Lake Lodge remains the most serene, romantic place I know.

Found this lodge while researching our Montana vacation. We stayed at several on our trip and this was our favorite. Why? First, the food was outstanding. Chef Amber Lukas knows what she's doing. We were there three nights and had some of the best meals of anywhere in the country. Second, the hospitality. Christian, the owner, is on site. He's warm and welcoming and his staff is accommodating and knows the area. We hiked, fished, used the canoes and had a bonfire each evening. We stayed in a lakefront cabin, the Grizz Den and could hear the waterfall roaring in the distance. Our bed was amazing, the linens plush.
And lastly....the views at this place are one of a kind. We felt we'd found something special and have rebooked for next year. This time we'll just be going to Holland Lake Lodge and skipping the others.

Definitely would recommend this to any who are looking for the ultimate Montana experience.
