One of the great historic lodges of the West anchors this complex on the shore of lovely Lake McDonald. Take a room in the lodge itself, where public spaces are filled with massive timbers, stone fireplaces, and animal trophies. Cabins sleep up to four and don't have kitchens; there are also motel-style rooms separate from the lodge. Pros: The deck and walkway overlooking Lake McDonald is absolutely lovely in the evening. Cons: This is the closest historic lodge to "civilization," so it's always busy in and around the place.
