Lodgings in the park tend to be fairly rustic and simple, though there are a few grand lodges and some modern accommodations. A few modern hotels offer facilities such as swimming pools, hot tubs, boat rentals, guided excursions, or fine dining. Although there is a limited supply of rooms, the prices are relatively reasonable. It's best to reserve well in advance, especially for July and August.
There are 10 major campgrounds in Glacier National Park and excellent backcountry sites for backpackers. Reservations for Fish Creek and St. Mary campgrounds are available through the National Park Reservation Service (877/444-6777 reservations.nps.gov/). Reservations may be made up to five months in advance.
Outside the park, campgrounds vary from no-services, remote state or federal campsites to upscale commercial operations. During July and August it's best to reserve a camp spot. Ask locally about bears and whether food must be stored inside a hard-side vehicle (not a tent).
