Built by ranching mogul Charles Krug in 1907, this solid brick home looks like a fortress compared with its stick-built Victorian contemporaries. Indeed, with more than 25 rooms and 8,000 square feet, this place sometimes seems more like a castle than a B&B. The interior is decidedly soft, however, and much of the Krug family's period furniture is still in use. Pros: Owners are friendly and helpful. This is a great base to explore the Yellowstone river and nearby badlands. Cons: The building and some fixtures feel old. Downtown location is handy, but there are few remarkable places to eat or drink.
