Covering the era from 1800 to 1900, the Museum of the Upper Missouri highlights the importance of Fort Benton and the role it played as a trading post, military fort, and the head of steamboat navigation. Old Fort Benton is adjacent; considered the birthplace of Montana, with its 1846 blockhouse, this is the oldest standing structure in the state. Highlights of the museum include tours of the restored frontier-era fort. The $10 fee also gives you access to the nearby Museum of the Northern Great Plains and the Missouri Breaks National Monument Interpretive Center.
