Fodor's Expert Review Fort Peck Hotel

175 S. Missouri St., Fort Peck, Montana, 59223, USA

Editor's Note: This location is reported to be under new ownership and therefore this review may contain inaccuracies.

Just about every piece of furniture in this lodge-like wooden building dates from the hotel's construction during the Great Depression. Inside, thick beams, sturdy rafters, and Western-style architecture transport you back to the 1930s. Accommodations are small and modest, and most bathrooms have showers, but some have massive claw-foot bathtubs. During the summer season the adjoining rustic dining room serves three square meals a day for an additional charge. The hotel, listed on the National Historic Registry, is popular with hunters in the fall and with arts patrons in the summer. Packages that include lodging, meals, and theater tickets are available.

PROS

  • authentic 1930s feel
  • the restaurant is spacious, and the front porch is a wonderful place to wind down
  • great access to fishing and hunting

CONS

  • creaky floors, dripping faucets, and noisy beds feel more like a summer camp
  • in the summertime the mosquitoes can drive you inside
  • off-season hours are erratic
